Yeast infection symptoms

Overview

Vaginal yeast infection causes itching, thick white discharge, and burning. It's often confused with BV or trichomoniasis, which need different treatments.

Symptoms to watch for

• Intense itching
• Thick, white, cottage-cheese-like discharge
• Burning with urination or sex
• Vulvar redness and swelling

What else could this be?

• Bacterial vaginosis (fishy odor, thin gray discharge)
• Trichomoniasis (frothy yellow-green, itching)
• Contact dermatitis

Treatment

Fluconazole 150 mg oral single dose, or clotrimazole/miconazole cream 3–7 days. Recurrent yeast (>4/year) may need longer courses.
