BV (bacterial vaginosis) symptoms

Overview

BV is an imbalance in vaginal bacteria — not an STI, but sexually associated. Fishy odor and thin gray discharge are characteristic.

Symptoms to watch for

• Thin, gray or white discharge
• Fishy odor, worse after sex
• Mild irritation or itching (less than yeast)

What else could this be?

• Yeast (itching + thick white)
• Trichomoniasis (frothy yellow-green)
• STIs

Treatment

Metronidazole (oral 500 mg BID 7 days or gel) or clindamycin. Avoid alcohol with oral metronidazole.
