Urinary Tract Infection

Also known as: uti, bladder infection

Overview

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection of the bladder, urethra, or kidneys. Classic symptoms are burning with urination, urgency, frequency, lower abdominal pressure, and cloudy or bloody urine. Most uncomplicated UTIs in women are diagnosed clinically and treated empirically with a 3- to 5-day antibiotic course like nitrofurantoin, fosfomycin, or trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. Clindle treats uncomplicated UTIs over video the same day — often within hours — and orders a urine culture when symptoms are recurrent. Fever, back pain, or pregnancy raise red flags and may need in-person evaluation.
