Painful Urination (Dysuria)

Overview

Dysuria — painful, burning, or stinging urination — is one of the most common reasons adults book a same-day visit. In women it's most often a urinary tract infection, but it can also come from vaginitis (yeast, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis), an STI like chlamydia or gonorrhea, interstitial cystitis, kidney stones, or irritation from soaps, spermicides, or new products. In men, dysuria more often points to urethritis, prostatitis, or an STI. Clindle evaluates dysuria over video, orders a urinalysis, urine culture, or STI panel at a lab near you, and prescribes antibiotics, antifungals, or phenazopyridine (Azo/Pyridium) for symptom relief the same visit. Fever, flank or back pain, pregnancy, or blood clots in the urine raise red flags and may need in-person care.
