Overview
Canker sores (aphthous ulcers) are painful shallow ulcers inside the mouth. Most heal in 7–10 days. Frequent or unusually large ones deserve workup.
Treatment
Topical corticosteroid gel (triamcinolone), viscous lidocaine, oral rinses (chlorhexidine, dexamethasone), avoid trigger foods (acidic, spicy). Recurrent: check B12, iron, folate, celiac.
When to book a visit
Book for recurrent ulcers or if lasting more than 2 weeks.
