Low mood / depression

Also called: sad, depressed, hopeless

Persistent low mood, loss of interest, sleep or appetite changes, fatigue, trouble concentrating, or thoughts of worthlessness lasting more than two weeks meet criteria for major depression. Clindle screens with the PHQ-9, rules out medical mimics (hypothyroidism, low B12, anemia), and starts evidence-based treatment the same visit when appropriate — SSRIs, SNRIs, bupropion, or mirtazapine — with follow-up every 2–4 weeks until response. If you're having thoughts of self-harm, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, right now.
