Overview
Sertraline (Zoloft) and escitalopram (Lexapro) are the two most-prescribed SSRIs. Both effective; slight differences in profile.
Symptoms to watch for
- First 2 weeks: nausea, headache, GI upset, activation
- Long-term: sexual dysfunction, sweating, weight changes, apathy
- Discontinuation syndrome if stopped abruptly
Treatment
Start low, take with food, allow 4–6 weeks for full effect. Bupropion added if sexual side effects. Slow taper when stopping.
