Overview
Kratom withdrawal follows a predictable opioid-withdrawal curve. Onset 12–24 hours after last dose, peak day 2–4, physical resolution day 7–10, and a mood/sleep tail that lasts 2–4 weeks. Users of modern high-potency 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) products, extracts, and gas-station shots withdraw faster, harder, and sometimes longer than traditional powder users.
Treatment
**Hours 0–12:** dose feels like it's not working, anxiety and craving rise, mild sweating. **Day 1 (12–24 hr):** runny nose, watery eyes, yawning, goosebumps, mild aches, restless legs, poor sleep. **Day 2–4 (peak):** worst muscle aches, cramping, diarrhea, nausea, sweating and chills, hot/cold flashes, insomnia, severe anxiety and irritability, strongest cravings. **Day 5–7:** GI settles, aches fade, sleep still poor, energy low, mood flat. **Day 7–10:** physical symptoms mostly gone; anhedonia and cravings remain. **Week 2–4:** post-acute withdrawal (PAWS) — intermittent low mood, poor sleep, cravings; slowly improves. Why is 7-OH withdrawal worse than leaf?
7-hydroxymitragynine is a far more potent mu-opioid agonist than mitragynine — extracts and shots deliver a dose profile closer to a short-acting opioid, so withdrawal is more concentrated.
