Fibroids are benign muscle tumors of the uterus, very common, and often symptomatic when large or numerous.

Symptoms to watch for

  • Heavy or prolonged periods
  • Pelvic pressure
  • Frequent urination
  • Constipation
  • Pain with sex
  • Anemia from blood loss

How it's diagnosed

Pelvic exam and ultrasound.

Treatment

Hormonal (pills, IUD, GnRH modulators like elagolix). Procedural: uterine artery embolization, myomectomy, hysterectomy.
