What is Ozempic and how does it work

Overview

Ozempic is once-weekly semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes. Wegovy is the same molecule dosed higher for weight loss. Both slow gastric emptying, blunt appetite, and improve blood sugar.

Treatment

Weekly injection, escalated slowly to minimize GI side effects. Typical weight loss ~15% at max dose. Improves cardiovascular outcomes in diabetes and kidney disease.
