Concussion symptoms

Overview

Concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury from a blow or jolt. Symptoms may not appear immediately and typically resolve in 1–4 weeks.

Symptoms to watch for

  • Headache
  • Confusion, feeling foggy
  • Dizziness or balance problems
  • Nausea
  • Sensitivity to light or noise
  • Memory problems
  • Sleep changes
  • Mood changes

Treatment

24–48 hours of relative rest, then gradual return to activity. Avoid screens if symptomatic. No return to contact sport until symptom-free and cleared.
