Overview

AHA blood pressure categories: normal <120/80, elevated 120–129/<80, stage 1 hypertension 130–139/80–89, stage 2 ≥140/90, hypertensive crisis >180/120.

Treatment

Below 130/80 is the target for most adults with hypertension per current guidelines. Older adults may have modified targets. Home monitoring is more accurate than office readings.
