Allergic rhinitis is IgE-mediated inflammation from pollens, dust mites, animal dander, or molds. Symptoms are often mistaken for chronic colds.

- Itchy eyes, nose, throat
- Nasal congestion
- Post-nasal drip
- Watery eyes
- Rarely fever (differentiates from infection)
What else could this be?
- Viral URI (short-lived, with fever)
- Non-allergic rhinitis
- Sinusitis
Treatment
Intranasal steroids (fluticasone, mometasone) — most effective. Antihistamines (cetirizine, loratadine, fexofenadine). Ipratropium for runny nose. Immunotherapy for refractory cases.
