PCOS

Also known as: polycystic ovary

Overview

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects ~10% of reproductive-age women and presents with irregular periods, acne, hirsutism, weight gain, and infertility. Diagnosis uses Rotterdam criteria (any 2 of 3: ovulatory dysfunction, hyperandrogenism, polycystic ovaries on ultrasound). Clindle screens with labs (testosterone, DHEA-S, prolactin, TSH, A1c, lipids), treats acne and hirsutism with spironolactone, manages cycle irregularity and contraception with combined OCPs, addresses insulin resistance with metformin, and supports weight management with GLP-1s when indicated. Fertility treatment is co-managed with OB/GYN.
